Millersville, Pa. -- The Millersville women's soccer team earned its second conference win of the season after defeating the Mansfield Mountaineers 5-0 Wednesday.
The Marauders enjoyed two offensive explosions in the first half against the Mountaineers.
The first goal was scored in the 10th minute as Mansfield's keeper failed to hold onto a ball that was popped up in the air. Junior
Delaney Meadows got her right foot on the loose ball and it snuck past the keeper and into the back of the net. Three minutes later, freshman
Paige Mancini bombed the ball up the field and into the box to sophomore
Abigail Eisenhart who blasted her opportunity into the back of the net. In the 15th minute, tenacious offensive play from the Marauders earned a corner. Junior
Lauren Hoffman fired the ball from the corner into the box where sophomore
Kay Liebl waited to score her fifth goal of the season.
The second offensive explosion began in the 30th minute when Eisenhart threaded a through ball up the center to senior
Rachel Lyon. Lyon launched her shot near the edge of the box and into the left side of the goal. Freshman
Alexis Glode scored the fifth goal of the game after dribbling around defenders at the top of the box and ripping a shot into the upper right hand corner of the goal. Millersville had one more potential goal scoring opportunity when sophomore
Amanda McElhare blasted a shot into the bottom of the crossbar and the ball almost rebounded into the goal. However, the score held at 5-0 until the end of the first half.
Millersville dominated the midfield in the second half and the Millersville defense absorb virtually all of Mansfield's offensive pressure. The Millersville offense enjoyed some strong looks at the goal but failed to register another goal during the second half and the game ended 5-0.
The Marauders dominated possession and out shot the Mountaineers 21-7 including 13-2 in the first half. Sophomore
Kate Phillips recorded one save in the first half thanks to the defensive line's suppression of Mansfield. Sophomore
Jenna Moser was substituted into goal at the beginning of the second half and earned three saves as well. Phillips, Moser and the starting back line of sophomore
Alyssa Antonelly, Hoffman, and Mancini earned Millersville's third clean sheet of the season. The team tied their season-high five goals in a single game which they first registered against Pitt-Johnstown.
The Marauders improve to 3-4-2 on the season and 2-4-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders also improved their record to 3-1-1 at Pucillo Field.
