East Stroudsburg, Pa.-- A late offensive rally and goal from sophomore
Kay Liebl was not enough to overcome conference rival East Stroudsburg, and the Marauders lost 2-1 on the road Sunday.
In the 85th minute, Liebl showed off her range and netted an upper 90 goal to halve ESU's lead over Millersville. Junior
Delaney Meadows and sophomore
Abigail Eisenhart each recorded shots following Liebl's goal, but neither shot turned into the equalizer for the Marauders. The Warriors weathered the late rally and led 2-1 as the clock expired.
The Warriors scored the opening goal of the game. Millersville conceded the first goal in the opening ten minutes of the game, but the team rebounded and put pressure of ESU's keeper with three shots on goal. Despite Millersville's attempts, the score held at 1-0 into halftime.
ESU struck again in the 69th minute. Sophomore
Katia Mujica saved an ESU shot but could not corral the ball, and ESU was able to put the rebounded shot back into the net. Millersville dominated the offensive possession after ESU's second goal and out shot the Warriors 3-1 leading up to Liebl's goal.
The Marauders out shot the Warriors 15-10 and 5-4 on goal, but the game defining difference came down to ESU's keeper who saved four shots.
Liebl improved her goal total to four and is tied with Meadows for most goals scored on the team. Liebl ranks second in points earned behind Meadows.
The Marauders fall to 2-4-2 and 1-4-2 in conference play. Millersville will look to turn around its conference trajectory at home against Mansfield Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
