Indiana, Pa. – Indiana (Pa.) (4-4) upset No. 6 Millersville by a 1-0 score on Saturday evening, dropping Millersville to 3-3 on the season.
The match-up was the first official PSAC game that Millersville has played, and it quickly drops to 0-1. Combined with the shutout at the hands of East Stroudsburg Wednesday, the Marauders have endured back-to-back shutouts for the first time since September of 2012. That was also the last time Millersville lost back-to-back regular season games.
After over 50 minutes of scoreless field hockey, Kalista Gioglio scored to give the Crimson Hawks the only goal of the game. Matti Reightler was credited with the assist.
Millersville goalie
Autumn Peters faced seven shots in the game, making three saves.
The Marauders put a bit more pressure on IUP by attempting nine shots with eight on goal. However, Hawks goalkeeper Alyssa Lerda saved all eight shots that she faced.
Erica Tarsi took three shots, and both Tarsi and
Aliza Mizak put two shots on goal.
The loss was the third of the year for Millersville, which has started 3-3 for the first time since 2011. IUP is the first unranked team to defeat Millersville since the regular season finale of 2013 when it was also the team that defeated Millersville 1-0 on its home turf.
The next challenge for Millersville comes on Wednesday at home against West Chester.
