Hockessin, Delaware - Eric Callahan hit his first career grand slam as part of a 10-run fourth inning, and Millersville baseball topped Goldey-Beacom 14-7, rolling to its sixth consecutive victory.
Ben Snyder, who went 3-for-6, hit his seventh home run of the season, and
Mitch Stoltzfus doubled twice. The Marauders totaled a season-high 19 hits for the second time in less than a week. 10 of the 11 Marauders with a plate appearance recorded at least one hit, and eight Marauders had two or more. Callahan drove in a career-high five runs.
Chas McCormick, the reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week, extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. The two hits made McCormick just the second player in PSAC history to reach 300 career hits. McCormick has totaled 14 hits in his last six games.
Millersville, now 32-14 overall, has won 13 of its last 15 games heading into the final four-game series of the regular season this weekend.
Goldey-Beacom scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning, and the lead held until the fourth. Goldey-Beacom starting pitcher Brandon Abdul was pulled after striking out three and allowing one hit through three innings, and Millersville quickly jumped on reliever Holden Bailey.
Mitch Stoltzfus started the inning with a double, and four of the first five Marauders reached base. Callahan cleared the bases with his second homer of the season. Three batters later, Snyder hit a two-run shot, and after 14 batters went to the plate, Millersville scored 10 runs. Nine of the runs (five earned) were credited to Bailey.
Callahan added his fifth RBI in the sixth, and
Ted Williams, who drew two walks, stole two bases and had two singles, drove in
Brandon White. McCormick's sacrifice fly and
Dan Neff's single capped the scoring in the eighth.
Drew Miller (2-0) picked up the mound win for the Marauders after allowing three runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out five.
Dylan Boisclair and
Kyle Peterson pitched scoreless innings of relief.
Millersville closes the regular season against Shippensburg. The first games of the series are set for Friday at Cooper Park.
