Millersville, Pennsylvania - A late rally in the seventh of game two nearly propelled the Millersville softball team to a split, but the Marauders fell to West Chester by scores of 4-1 and 4-3 Sunday.
Cassidy Pinchorski took the mound in game one while
Emma Bevard pitched the second game.
GAME ONE
West Chester got on the board in the second inning after Cat Hammer scored to make it 1-0. Millersville would respond in bottom half of the third when
Megan McCurdy singled and advanced to second on an error. Two batters later,
Heather Lutz would smoke a ball that was knocked down by the second baseman but Lutz beat the throw and McCurdy came in from second base.
Neither team would score again until the Golden Rams got two runs in the top of the sixth to re-gain the lead. West Chester would play small ball to get a runner in scoring position in the seventh when Bollinger singled and was bunted over. Sarah Walasavage hit a ball back to the pitched and an errant throw led to Bollinger scoring to make it 4-1. Amanda Houck sat the Marauder runners down in order in the seventh as West Chester took game one.
GAME TWO
The Golden Rams would jump out to an early lead in game two, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. In the bottom half of the inning,
Heather Lutz singled and reached second on a wild pitch and Brittney Smith would move her over to third with two outs.
Maggie Murphy would come to the plate and smack a double to cut the deficit in half.
In the second inning, West Chester would load the bases when a ball was hit towards the shortstop but the umpire could not get out of the way and the ball fell allowing two more runs to score. In the fifth inning, Millersville threatened loading the bases but the Golden Rams would make a pitching change and get out of the jam unscathed.
Millersville nearly tied the game in the seventh as Lutz worked a walk and
Raeann Buskey singled. Smith would come up next and rip an RBI double to make the score 4-2.
Maggie Murphy followed the at bat with a single that made the score 4-3. The Marauders would run out of outs however as West Chester snagged the last out in center field and won game two.
