Millersville, Pennsylvania - Cassidy Pinchorski and
Emma Bevard both threw perfect games as the Millersville softball team swept Lincoln 14-0 and 8-0 on Wednesday. Pinchorski took the mound in game one and struck out a career-high 14 batters while Bevard fanned five and let her defense help lift her to the second perfect game of the day.
Several Marauders contributed offensively but
Brittany Smith led the way with four hits and four RBIs. Nine different batters recorded at least one RBI including
Ally Kerr who ended game two with a two-RBI double to make the score 8-0 Millersville.
Game One
Pinchorski was sharp from first pitch, striking out eight of the first nine batters she faced. In the top of the first,
Heather Lutz would work a lead off walk and be doubled in by
Brittany Smith to give Millersville a 1-0 lead.
Rebecca Blatt led off the second with a single to left and would be brought home by a
Kelsey Campbell base hit. With the bases loaded and two outs
Brittany Smith would smack a two-RBI single and put the Marauders up 4-0.
After
Rebecca Blatt and
Morgan Almodovar reached base,
Megan McCurdy hit a sacrifice fly to center field that would make the score 5-0. Two batters later,
Cassidy Pinchorski helped herself out with an RBI single to left field to make it 6-0 Millersville.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, a wild pitch would make the score 7-0 before Almodovar had an RBI single to make it and eight run game. The Marauder would tack on six more as they took a commanding 14-0 lead.
Pinchorski would come out in the fifth and finish the game emphatically, striking out the side to record her first career perfect game.
Game Two
Millersville picked up right where they left off in the second, as
Heather Lutz reached base and
Raeann Buskey doubled to left center to put the Marauders on the board.
Brittany Smith came up next and registered an RBI single to make the score 2-0.
Kaelyn Buskey would spark a two-out rally in the third as she singled and stole second, leading to a
Rebecca Blatt RBI-double. The Lions would be baited into a throw to second when Blatt alertly stole home to make the score 4-0.
The Millersville defense continued its solid play behind Bevard, making three sharp plays in the fifth to help sit down the Lions in order. In the bottom half of the inning,
Kaelyn Buskey would double in
Raeann Buskey to make the score 5-0. After
Maggie Murphy doubled to add another run.
Ally Kerr smacked a pinch-hit double that would score
Jade Laughlin and
Rebecca Blatt to give Millersville an 8-0 victory.
Bevard recorded a strikeout in four of the five innings she threw as the freshman capped a historical day for the Marauders softball program by recording her perfect game.
The Marauders have a busy week ahead of them, hosting conference foes West Chester and Kutztown Friday and Saturday.
