Millersville, Pennsylvania - Brittany Smith totaled four hits and two RBIs as Millersville defeated Bowie State 4-3 and 8-0 Tuesday.
Megan McCurdy also had a big night with three hits, three runs and an RBI sparking the fourth-inning rally that would propel the Marauders to the game one victory. For the second straight day
Cassidy Pinchorski picked up the first win and
Emma Bevard earned the victory in game two. Smith's four hits on the afternoon tie her for first all-time at Millersville with 198 for her career (Meghan Sinback).
Game One
Bowie State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but Millersville would not get on the board until the bottom of the fourth when
Megan McCurdy smacked a triple to bring
Kaelyn Buskey home.
Cassidy Pinchorski followed up the at bat with an RBI-single to pull the Marauders within one run.
Rebecca Blatt came up next and ripped a double to center field that tied the game at 3-3.
Millersville threatened with runners on second and third in the fifth inning but could not bring home a run as the score remained knotted up at 3. McCurdy sparked another rally in the sixth tripling to begin the inning. Blatt came up to the plate and lifted the ball to deep right field as McCurdy tagged and scored to give the Marauders the 4-3 lead. Pinchorski would sit down all three batters in the seventh as Millersville took game one 4-3.
Game Two
Emma Bevard was locked in from the start, striking out two of the first three batters she faced. In the bottom of the third inning
Raeann Buskey and
Heather Lutz would reach base bringing up
Brittany Smith who smoked a double down the left field line that gave the Marauders an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth Jayne Black doubled to left field scoring
Kelsey Campbell and
Megan McCurdy to make the score 4-0.
Raeann Buskey ripped one through the hole as two more runs came home to make it 6-0.
In the sixth inning
Brittany Smith singled to left field putting runners on the corners for the pinch hitter.
Sam Waldman stepped up to the plate and hit one in the right-center gap plating
Nicole Burke and Smith to seal the game for Millersville.
The Marauders have a pivotal weekend of PSAC East play coming up, traveling to West Chester Friday before hosting Shippensburg Saturday.
