Millersville, Pennsylvania - The Millersville softball team snapped an eight-game losing streak by defeating Goldey-Beacom 5-0 and 7-6 Monday.
Cassidy Pinchorski threw the game one shutout while freshman
Emma Bevard came on in relief to help lift the Marauders to victory in game two. Fellow freshman
Rebecca Blatt totaled three RBIs in the two games and scored a pair of runs in the wins.
Game Two
It was Goldey-Beacom who struck first in game two scoring a pair of runs on a Kasey Goshorn double. The Lightning would add another run in the third as they took a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third,
Brittany Smith would rip a double that scored a run as the Marauders were on the board.
Rebecca Blatt would come up and crush the first pitch she saw down the line as Millersville tied the game 3-3.
Kelsey Campbell would drop a sacrifice bunt that scored another run to make the score 4-3.
Jaynie Black would cap off the rally with an RBI-single to score Blatt as the Marauders took a two-run lead. Goldey-Beacom would get a run back in the top of the fifth but Millersville responded in the bottom half and re-gain the two-run advantage.
After giving a up a two-run home run
Emma Bevard got a huge strikeout to send the game to the bottom of the sixth with the score knotted up at 6-6. In the bottom half of the inning with two down
Megan McCurdy would single in
Brittany Smith as the Marauders took the lead 7-6.
Goldey-Beacom would lead off the seventh with a base hit but Bevard and the defense retired the next three batters and hung on for the victory.
Game One
Millersville looked to start things in the second inning,
Morgan Almodovar reached base and worked her way over to third with two down, but the Marauders could not bring her in to score. In the bottom of the third,
Rebecca Blatt worked a walk and
Heather Lutz singled to right field and score Blatt to make it 1-0. After a pair of singles, Millersville loaded the bases but could not bring another runner home.
Cassidy Pinchorski would help herself out in the fourth singling through the hole at shortstop and
Nicole Burke would come on to pinch run. Once again, Millersville loaded the bases and would get a gift as an error would score a pair of runs and extend the inning, eventually going up 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pinchorski helped her cause out by driving in
Megan McCurdy to make the score 5-0 Marauders. Pinchorski remained solid on the mound, allowing just four hits as she picked up the shutout victory and snapped the Millersville eight-game losing streak.
Millersville returns to the field Tuesday hosting another non-conference opponent in Bowie State starting at 4 p.m.
