Softball sweeps Philadelphia in home opener

Millersville, Pennsylvania - The Millersville softball team defeated Philadelphia University 4-2 in both games of the double header. Three run outbursts in the fifth and sixth innings respectively propelled the Marauders to leads they would close out in the seventh. Cassidy Pinchorski picked up the win in the first game and got the save in the second, lifting the Millersville record to 5-2.

Megan McCurdy had the hot bat in game one, picking up two hits and scoring a run. It was Philadelphia who drew first blood in game one after an error allowed a base runner to advance to third and the Rams' Levins would single the run home to take a 1-0 lead in the third.

Millersville would go 1-2-3 and wouldn't threaten until the fifth. After McCurdy singled, Maria Spinosa would reach base on an error and advance McCurdy to third. Jamie Trewhella would drive home McCurdy and two batters later Spinosa scored after another Philadelphia error.

The Marauders would get an insurance run in the sixth when Maggie Smith ripped a double to score Brit Smith from second base. The Rams tried to get a two-out rally going in the top of the seventh, but would fly out to end the game 4-2.

Emma Bevard got the nod in game two, throwing four innings allowing just one unearned run. In the bottom of the third, Kelsey Campbell reached base and Raeann Buskey doubled to put the Marauders up 1-0.

Philadelphia would answer right back in the fourth and the game was tied 1-1 going into the sixth. After the Rams took a 2-1 lead, Kaelyn Buskey singled and would be brought in by a Maggie Smith base hit. After McCurdy reached on an error, Campbell smashed a double that would bring in two runs and give Millersville a 4-2 lead. Pinchorski would come in and strikeout two of three batters to shut the door and give the Marauders their second 4-2 victory of the night.

Millersville is now 5-2 on the season and will make spring break trips to Virginia and Florida to play a series of games.
