Shepherdstown, West Virginia - The Millersville softball team split a doubleheader with Shepherd, edging out the Rams 5-4 in game one before falling 13-4 in game two.
Cassidy Pinchorski picked up the win in game one and
Emma Bevard came in to get the save.
Maggie Murphy and
Heather Lutz both tallied two RBIs on the afternoon while
Megan McCurdy had a pair of hits and three runs.
In game one, the two sides were knotted up at one in the fourth when
Megan McCurdy doubled to center field to lead off the inning. After
Ally Kerr singled,
Kaelyn Buskey registered a RBI single to break the scoreless tie. The Rams would load the bases and walk in the second run before committing an error and giving Millersville a 3-0 lead.
Heather Lutz smacked a two-run double to blow the game open at 5-0.
The Marauders would not allow a hit in the fifth or sixth but Shepherd made some noise in the bottom of the seventh inning. After back to back singles, a fielder's choice retired the lead runner leaving Millersville just two outs away from victory. The next batter would hit a single to get the Rams on the board for the first time.
Two batters later, Shepherd loaded the bases and Gilligan ripped a three-RBI double to pull the Rams to within one run.
Jen Probst called freshman
Emma Bevard from the bullpen to get the last batter to pop out, securing a 5-4 win for Millersville.
The Rams would carry over the momentum from game one into the second half of the double header, jumping out to a 7-1 lead after just two innings. Trailing 2-0 in the second,
Megan McCurdy was able to reach base via an error and
Maggie Murphy followed up with a base hit to send McCurdy home and cut the deficit in half. The Marauders stranded McCurdy and Shepherd went back to work in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs and taking control of the game.
McCurdy got things going in the top of the fourth doubling to left field. Once again Murphy would drive her home and the runner was advanced to third when
Kaelyn Buskey singled to center field.
Nicole Burke would ground out but drive home a run in the process to make the score 7-3 before Shepherd got the final out of the inning. The Rams immediately answered in the bottom half of the inning, putting up another three runs to take back control of the game.
Brittney Smith doubled to right center in the fifth to try and start a rally, but Millersville would get just one run as Shepherd cruised to the 13-4 victory.
