Millersville, Pennsylvania - The Millersville softball team edged out Clarion 4-3 before topping the Golden Eagles 4-1 in the second half of the doubleheader Saturday.
Cassidy Pinchorski threw all 14 innings for Millersville striking out eight batters and giving up 11 hits. In game one Millersville got a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth for
Kaelyn Buskey that proved to be the game winner and scored four runs in the fourth inning of game two to take control of game number two.
Clarion got on the board in the top of the first when Cassidy Runyan walked, stole a base and scored on a wild pitch. Millersville responded in the bottom half of the inning when
Raeann Buskey singled and Hether Lutz reached on a hit-by-pitch.
Brittany Smith would reach base on an error to load the bases for
Megan McCurdy who worked a walk.
Maggie Murphy would follow up in the next at bat with a sacrifice fly to put Millersville ahead 2-1.
The Golden Eagles got both runs back the next inning when Rachel Hoffman hit a two-run shot to center field to make the score 3-2 Clarion. In the bottom of the fifth
Jamie Trewhella and
Brittany Smith each reached base a passed ball to bring up
Megan McCurdy who drove home the tying run.
In the sixth inning, Pinchorski sat down the Golden Eagles in order bringing up
Kaelyn Buskey who smashed a homer on the first pitch she saw to give the Marauders a 4-3 lead. Clarion made it interesting in the top of the seventh getting a runner on base but a ground out and fly out would end the game at 4-3.
In the second game, the two sides were scoreless until Millersville got things going in the bottom of the fourth inning. A bloop single would score
Heather Lutz before
Kelsey Campbell laid down a perfect bunt to make the score 2-0 and keep the bases loaded.
Megan McCurdy would continue the rally, blooping one into center field and scoring two more to make the score 4-0 Millersville.
Clarion answered with a run in the top of the fifth inning but the Marauders halted the rally and retired three of four batters in the sixth. Millersville would not score again but had all the runs they needed as Pinchorski and the Marauders sat down the Golden Eagles 1-2-3 in the seventh inning to take the sweep.
