Millersville, Pennsylvania -- The Millersville women's lacrosse team looks to improve on its 2016 11-7 record and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament quarterfinal appearance. The team is seeking its first back-to-back tournament appearances under head coach
Mia Hall.
The team enjoyed it's first postseason appearance since 2001, and Coach Hall's squad looks to reload after only losing three members from last year's squad to graduation.
The reload begins up front on the attack with junior
Sabrina Fusco amd senior
Renee Landis. Fusco earned All-PSAC Second Team honors last season while she ranked second on the team in goals and points. Landis ranked third in goals and fourth in points. Coach Hall expects for a more balanced attack starting in the midfield. She emphasized aggression in forcing and recovering turnovers to create more attacking opportunities. The team brought on three left-handed attackers to be more dangerous from all angles in front of the goal.
Sophomore
Natalie Sukanick returns to wreak havoc in the midfield fresh off her All-PSAC Third Team and PSAC Freshman of the Year honors. Sukanick ranked second on the team in ground balls while causing a team high 20 turnovers.
The team features 19 underclassmen and Hall will use an all hands on deck approach to replace the holes left by
Bridget Hufnagel,
Abby Mack, and
Brianna Logana. Last season, Hufnagel was an offensive juggernaut ranking first on the team in scoring while ranking in the top-10 in the conference. Mack was a stalwart in the midfield who never missed a game in two seasons while leading the team in assists. Logana started 35 games in two seasons, and she shored up the back end forcing turnovers and scooping up ground balls.
Hall is looking for the team to set a tone for the season early. She expects the team to approach every possession with efficiency, while staying aggressive without the ball to create more opportunities to score.
Millersville's first game is at home against Georgian Court on Friday, March 3 at 4 p.m. The game will be held at Chryst Field in Biemesderfer Stadium.
