Millersville, Pennsylvania - For the third consecutive game, Millersville's offense struggled to get started. The Marauders opened Wednesday's game with six points in the first six minutes and never recovered against visiting Bloomsburg. Millersville trailed by as many as 20 in the first half and fell by a 90-58 score.
Since beating nationally-ranked Shippensburg, Millersville has shot under 30 percent from three in three consecutive games and has scored fewer than 60 points in each game. A failure to score in the opening 20 minutes has been a key culprit to the three-game skid. Millersville has averaged nine field goals and just 24 points in the first half of the last three games and has trailed by 20 or more at the half in two of the games.
Against Bloomsburg, the Marauders shot 9-of-26 and committed seven turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, falling behind by 20 points at the break. Bloomsburg took 12 more shots, made five threes, committed just one turnover. It took just 6:14 of game action for Millersville to fall behind by double-digits as it started 2-of-12 from the field.
Bloomsburg also controlled the glass, out-rebounding Millersville 24-14 in the first half, grabbing nine offensive rebounds and totaling 13 second chance points in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Any thoughts the Marauders had of a comeback were quickly dashed when Bloomsburg made its first two buckets of the second half, expanding the lead to 23. The closest Millersville came the rest of the way was 17, and Bloomsburg led by as many as 34. Bloomsburg finished with just six turnovers, and for the first time this season, Millersville failed to record a steal.
Cornell Yarde II and
Jordan Greene led Millersville in scoring with 16 points apiece. Christian Mortellite paced six Huskies in double figures with 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Millersville returns to action Saturday with a home game against Lock Haven.
