Marauders pick up key win over Lock Haven

Story Links

Millersville, Pennsylvania - Led by four players in double figures, the Millersville Marauders scored an important 88-82 win over Lock Haven Saturday in Pucillo Gymnasium. The win pushed the Marauders ahead of the Bald Eagles in the PSAC East standings and kept them in the postseason picture.

Cornell Yarde II and Marcus Adkison both scored 18 points, and Adkison tallied a career-high seven assists. Conrad Chambers scored 17 points, going 9-for-9 at the free throw line. Jordan Greene registered his second career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Tommy Patterson also blocked a career-high four shots.

Millersville used a 17-4 run during a seven minute stretch in the second period to build a 16-point lead with 9:46 to play. The Marauders extended the lead to 18 points (71-53) with 7:44 left. But like the first meeting of the season between the teams, Lock Haven charged back. On January 9, Lock Haven overcame an eight-point deficit in the final four minutes to win 72-68. On Saturday, the Bald Eagles scored 26 points in the last 6:10, cutting Millersville's lead to as few as four. The Marauders did not make a field goal in that stretch but did enough at the free throw line (14-of-17) to hold on to the lead.

Lock Haven's Alsmith Saintilius came off the bench to hit a corner 3-pointer with 39 seconds left, making the score 84-80 in favor of Millersville. Forced to foul, Lock Haven sent Adkison to the line, where he made both. Lock Haven's next shot attempt missed, and Adkison made two more with 21 seconds to play.

After failing to record a steal in its last game, Millersville tallied nine against Lock Haven, forcing 20 turnovers. Millersville's seven blocks were a season-high.

Of Millersville's final three regular season games, two are on the road. Millersville travels to nationally-ranked Kutztown on Saturday, Feb. 18 before playing its home finale against West Chester on Feb.  22.
