Winston-Salem, North Carolina - Ben Snyder hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, and starter
David Manasek tossed six shutout innings, leading No. 5 Millersville baseball to a 9-2 win and series sweep of Winston-Salem State.
The win pushed Millersville to 3-0 for the first time since 2002, and the 29 runs scored in the series were the most through three games since 2001. Snyder went 2-for-4 with a homer, and leadoff hitter
Dan Neff went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base, giving him four steals in the first three games.
Manasek (1-0) was impressive in his Marauder debut, scattering eight hits while striking out eight and not issuing a walk. Freshman
Tyler Yankosky pitched three innings in relief.
Snyder's home run was part of a four-run first for the Marauders. The lead grew to 6-0 in the fifth when freshman
Brandon White hit a solo home run to left, and
Chas McCormick doubled home Neff. The Marauders added two more in the seventh and another in the eighth. Neff drove in a run in both innings.
Winston-Salem State put at least one runner on base in each of the first seven innings. Manasek kept the Rams off the board, however, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third with a fly out, and stranded a runner on third in the sixth. After giving up a two-run double in the seventh, Yankosky settled in and retired the last eight batters he faced.
Millersville is off until Feb. 17 when it travels to Williamston for four games with Charleston and Pitt-Johnstown.
