Millersville, Pennsylvania - Millersville led by 15 points with a little more than nine minutes remaining in Wednesday's PSAC East match-up with West Chester. But the visiting Golden Rams wiped out Millersville's lead in less than five minutes and eliminated Millersville PSAC Tournament contention by an 80-75 final.
Millersville's
Jordan Greene scored a career-high 31 points against his former team, but the Marauders' offense betrayed them in the final 10 minutes. After extending its lead to 63-48 with 9:58 to play, Millersville missed its next seven shots and committed three turnovers while West Chester connected on five of its next seven shots and six consecutive field goals. The 17-2 run knotted the game with 4:32.
Marcus Adkison's bucket only temporarily quelled West Chester's momentum as Millersville missed its next four field goals, scoring six of its final eight points at the free throw line. A pair of
Cornell Yarde II free throws tied the game at 73-73 with 1:21 to play, but Millersville came up empty on its next two offensive possessions and sent West Chester o the line eight times in the final minute. West Chester made seven of the attempts. Millersville shot 2-for-13 and was outscored 32-12 in the final 10 minutes.
The loss dropped Millersville to 8-17 overall and 7-14 in league play. Coupled with Lock Haven's win over Mansfield, the Marauders dropped two games behind the Bald Eagles in the standings with one game to play, effectively eliminating them from the playoffs.
Millersville led West Chester 42-36 at the half and Greene opened the second with a three, a breakaway slam dunk and a pull-up jumper, giving him nine consecutive points. The Marauder lead grew to double-figures on
Tom Townsend's 3-pointer with 13:35 to play.
Greene joined Adkison as Marauders with 30-point games this season. He shot 12-of-18 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Adkison added 14 points, three assists and three steals, and Yarde totaled 14 points and four assists.
Amadou Kaba played just 20 minutes before fouling out but totaled seven points, 11 rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots.Â
Millersville closes its 2016-17 season at Cheyney on Saturday.
