Kutztown, Pennsylvania - Millersville trailed No. 6 Kutztown by just five points with four minutes to play but the homestanding Golden Bears extended their winning streak to 14 games by outscoring the Marauders 13-5 the rest of the game to win 90-77.
Marcus Adkison, who led Millersville (8-16, 7-13 PSAC) with 19 points, hit one of his five 3-pointers with 4:06 to play, slashing Kutztown's lead to 77-72. Kutztown's Josh Johnson answered with a layup, and Austin Beidelman created a Millersville turnover and hit Dan Cuevas for a fastbreak layup, giving the Golden Bears a nine-point advantage. Adkison knocked down two free throws on Millersville's next offensive possession, but Millersville came up empty on three of its final five possessions while Kutztown pulled away at the free throw line.
Johnson's three-point play with 1:49 left was a dagger for the Marauders. It put Kutztown in front by 12. He made two more free throws in the final minute to give him a game-high 26 points. Kutztown topped the 90-point mark for the 10th time in the last 14 games and improved to 12-1 at home.
Adkison shot 5-of-9 from three and added four assists.
Jordan Greene tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Conrad Chambers (11) and
Cornell Yarde II (10) also hit double figures for the Marauders. Both teams made 10 3-pointers, with Millersville shooting 35.7 percent and Kutztown hitting 40 percent.
Millersville led 31-30 with 4:03 left in the first half, but Kutztown ripped off an 11-0 run over the next three and a half minutes and took a 44-36 lead into the half.
Kutztown maintained a half-game lead over Shippensburg for first place in the PSAC East. Millersville entered Saturday tied with Lock Haven and Mansfield. Mansfield lost and at the time of posting, Lock Haven and West Chester were still playing. The Marauders return home for its final home game of the season on Wednesday against West Chester.
