MATCH OVERVIEW
• Millersville will try to steal the Rupp Cup from its Lancaster County rival Franklin & Marshall on Thursday evening. The Diplomats have won the trophy six years in a row. Before F&M's recent streak, the Marauders held the Cup from 2008-2010. Of those who competed last year, only four are expected to be in Millersville's lineup:
Austin Camacci (125),
Seth Decker (157),
Nick Mancini (174), and
Colton Dull (197). Camacci and Dull accounted for two of Millersville's three wins.
• Millersville is looking to snap its three match skid. The last Marauder victory came on Jan. 20 against American International but have come close in its last two duals. Against nationally-ranked Pitt-Johnstown, the Marauders lost by just three points, and lost 27-18 to ESU its last time out. Millersville has won at least four matches in three of the last four duals.Â
• Four Millersville wrestlers placed at the Messiah Open. 165-pound
Shane Ruhnke went 3-1 and finished second. His loss in the championship bout was his first since Jan. 14. 133-pound
Aaron Wildonger took third while
Connor Sheehan (125) and and
Liam Frank (174) both finished fourth.Â
• Thursday is also Senior Day for
Austin Camacci (125),
David Charles (141),
Kyle Loeb (133), and
Nick Mancini (174). Earning the starting spot at 125 pounds in his first season, Camacci is a four-year member of the team earning 49 career wins to date. Â After a year away from the program, Charles has a record of 13-9 and has already tied his season-high of three pins. Loeb has wrestled three years for the Marauders and earned 15 career wins. Mancini has wrestled in three weight classes in his career at Millersville. He has nine career wins and has been named a PSAC Scholar Athlete twice.Â
• F&M has lost three duals in a row but owns wins over VMI, Davidson and Sacred Heart. At the Messiah Open, Antonio Pelusi and Philip Robilotto finished in first place with five placing in the event. Robilotto, who ranks second on the team with a 19-10 record, will be in the lineup Thursday. Dan Martoccio (133) and Paddy Quinlan (19-16) are tied for the team lead in pins with nine apiece.Â
• The Rupp Cup honors the late Dr. Ted Rupp. Rupp wrestled for F&M and graduated in 1934. He founded Millersville's wrestling program in 1947 and led the program for 12 seasons. During the 1948-49 season, Rupp simultaneously coached the Marauders and the Diplomats for a combined record of 20-2. Rupp was a professor in French and Spanish at Millersville and the chair of the Foreign Language Department until his retirement in 1979. He passed away on Feb. 11, 2010.
