Mansfield, Pennsylvania - It took Millersville more than eight minutes to make its first field goal, and by the time
Marcus Adkison's 3-pointer broke the drought, the Marauders trailed Mansfield 19-4. Millersville recovered enough to pull within one point in the second half, but Mansfield held on to hand Millersville a 62-54 defeat.
Millersville (7-13, 6-10) entered the game riding back-to-back home routs including a 17-point win over nationally-ranked and unbeaten Shippensburg. But the team's road struggles struck again, falling to 1-9 in away games. After totaling 179 points in its previous two games, Millersville scored its fewest points of the season, after shooting better than 50 percent in back-to-back games, Millersville shot just 33.3 percent from the floor--its second lowest percentage of the season. Millersville found its way to the free throw line just 11 times and made only five--its fewest of the season.
Conrad Chambers made four threes and finished with 15 points but scored 10 of those in the first half.
Marcus Adkison was the only other Marauder to crack double figures, scoring 10 on 3-of-12 shooting.
The Marauders missed their first 11 shots and committed five turnovers in the first 8:14 of action. Despite trailing by 18 points early, Millersville charged back, closing to within five (33-28) at the half. After Adkison's first field goal, Millersville totaled 27 points in the final 11:46 of the half, making 9-of-15 field goals and 4-of-6 threes. 17 of the points came from Chambers and Adkison.
The Marauders opened the second half with back-to-back buckets, closing to within 33-32. Millersville, however, made just two of its next 11 shots and fell behind by nine again. Chambers hit a three to make the score 54-50 with 6:08 to play, but Millersville shot 2-for-11 and 0-of-5 from three the rest of the way, mustering just seven points and failing to pull closer than four. Millersville's last points came with 1:30 remaining.
Mansfield shot 50.9 percent but also committed 19 turnovers, which Millersville turned into 23 points.
Millersville next travels to East Stroudsburg on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip.
