Millersville, Pa. - From the first shot of the game, it was clear that this was
Marcus Adkison's day. The Millersville junior scored a career-high 44 points as the Marauders topped the century mark for the second consecutive game, pulling away from Clarion, 102-71.
Adkison drilled 17 of 22 shots including 8 of 12 threes (two makes shy of the school record). He made 9 of 10 shots in the first half, and didn't miss until his sixth attempt. Adkison's performance powered an offense that shot 56.3 percent from the field and made 12 of 19 threes.
Jordan Greene added 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field and 5 of 6 shooting from the line.
The Marauders have now scored over 100 points in all three victories while shooting 54.8 from the field with 21 threes made in their last two games. It is the first time Millersville has won back-to-back games with 30-point margins and the first back-to-back 100-point games since the 1993, when that club beat District of Columbia 115-63 and Bloomsburg 103-69 in the span of three days.
With the Marauders' offense clicking, there was little Clarion could do to keep pace. Millersville closed the first half on a 14-1 run, which included 10 of Adkison's 24 first-half points.
James Sullivan put the exclamation point on a 22-point first half lead with a steal and emphatic one-hand slam as time expired.
Millersville, however, had been in this position before, leading at halftime in seven of eight games this season. Clarion opened the second on a 10-1 run, but a timeout by Marauders' boss
Casey Stitzel and a driving hoop by Adkison righted the ship. Millersville took the lead from 13 back to 22 in a little more than three minutes.
The Marauders' largest lead of 38 points came with 3:31 remaining on a
Jamal Washington two-hand slam.
In addition to his career offensive performance, Adkison doubled his previous career high in rebounds with eight.
Millersville returns to action Sunday against Pitt-Johnstown. Tip is set for 3 p.m.
