
Fusco breaks school record in the 100-yard backstroke at the F&M Invitational

Lancaster, Pa. – The Millersville women's swimming team recorded a seventh place finish in the Franklin & Marshall Invitational this weekend. Senior Emily Fusco set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke, breaking her previous record she set previously at the 2017 Pennylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship.
Fusco claimed second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.51. Her previous record time was 57.77. Fusco set a new season best in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.51) by breaking her 2:12.29 at the California (Pa.) Invitational. Fusco placed second in the 200 back.
Sophomore Amanda Wetzler broke the PSAC time standard in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.20, qualifying for the championships. Freshman Leah Barrett finished 15th in the 50-yard freestyle by breaking her season and team best with a time of 25.29.
With a sixth place finish, Madisson Cartmill earned a new season best (2:08.59) in the 200-yard backstroke. Previously, Cartmill had a 2:14.60 at the Lock Haven, Cedar Crest meet. Cartmill broke another season best in the 400-yard individual medley with a seven place finish (4:43.76).
Junior Mariana Bernal recorded a 13th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke by setting a new season best in that competition for herself. Bernal touched the wall at 1:09.43, two seconds better than her previous best.
The Marauders ended the event with an 11th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay which included Fusco, Cartmill, Wetzler and freshman Shannon Coccaro. The four of them had a time of 3:42.57.
The Marauders have a two month break until the next competition in Boca Raton, Fla. The team competes in a dual meet against Lynn University on Saturday, January 6.
