Edinboro pulls away late against Millersville

Edinboro, Pa. - Edinboro's Mike Beck hit five 3-pointers and none was bigger than his triple with 1:39 remaining in Saturday's PSAC opener against Millersville. The Marauders had just cut Edinboro's lead to two, but Beck's three was a back-breaker for the visitors. Edinboro went on to win 85-74, pulling away at the free throw line in the final minute.

Jordan Greene pulled Millersville to within 74-72 by scoring on a driving left-handed lay-up with 1:42 remaining. But Beck, who scored 19 points on 5 of 7 3-point shooting, immediately answered on a left-corner three. Marcus Adkison led Millersville in scoring for the third consecutive game with 22, but his three on Millersville's next trip bounced off back iron. Millersville was forced to foul, but Edinboro sank all eight free throws as it outscored Millersville 11-2 in the last two minutes of the game.

Millersville has now lost three in a row but all three losses have come by now more than 11. Adkinson made 9 of 17 shots and 4 of 8 from three for his third consecutive game over 20 points. Greene scored a season-high 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting while grabbing seven boards.Conrad Chambers chipped in 13 points, now having scored in double figures in all four games.

Millersville made 30 of 60 shots, but Edinboro's 3-point shooting was the difference. Including Beck's five, the Fighting Scots nailed 12 of 24 attempts from behind the arc. Anthony Coleman finished with a game-high 23.

The Marauders have led at the half in all four games this season, and on Saturday, a Greene 3-point in the waning seconds of the half put Millersville in front 46-39 at the break. But Millersville went cold in the second half, scoring just seven points in a little less than six minutes of action. With Millersville going 3 for 8 with two turnovers in the first 10 possessions, Edinboro wiped out Millersville's lead and tied the game at 53. Millersville's final lead of 62-61 went away with 9:43 left when Jaryn Simpson knocked down a three. Millersville evened the score twice more, but a Coleman three with 4:37 to go put Edinboro on top for good.

Millersville travels north to Erie on Sunday to take on Mercyhurst at 3 p.m.
