East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Tyrone Gibson rushed for a career-high 183 yards, and Millersville logged its first shutout since 2012 for a 12-0 win at East Stroudsburg Thursday evening under the lights. A Gibson rushing touchdown, a safety recorded on a Sean Dugan sack and a 41-yard field goal from Joey Farley was all the scoring the Marauders needed to pick up its first win over the Warriors since 2011.

Gibson became the first Millersville (2-4, 1-2 PSAC East) running back to rush for 100 yards since 2014 and piled up the most rushing yards by an Marauder since the 2013 season finale. He did so on just 18 carries, and the Marauders' one touchdown drive was all Gibson. He broke free for a 59-yard gain--the longest run by a Marauder since Nov. 1, 2014. A three-yard run was followed by a 17-yard scamper to pay dirt. That score put the Marauders in front 7-0 with 6:52 left in the first half.

That score alone would have been enough for the Marauders, but the lead grew to 9-0 on ESU's first drive of the third quarter. A Tyler Reiman punt backed up the Warriors on their own 4, and on third-and-seven, Dugan came off the edge and sacked Ben Moser in the end zone. Dugan finished with 12 tackles--his third double-digit tackle performance of the season. His sack was one of a season-high five for a ferocious Millersville front seven. Tommy Halloway and Morgan Faughnan each tallied 1 1/2 sacks, and Nate Hiligh recorded the first of his career.

Leading 9-0 with 9:56 left in the fourth quarter, the Marauders leaned on Gibson to chew up more than five minutes of clock in a drive that covered just 21 yards on eight plays. But a seven-yard rush by Gibson on a third-and-15 allowed the clock to continue to roll and set up Farley for a career-long field goal.

While the Marauders scored in all three facets of the game--offense, defense and special teams--East Stroudsburg missed a field goal wide left in the first quarter, spoiling a 67-yard drive that started on the ESU 7. The next ESU drive reached the Millersville 17 before Hiligh sacked Moser for a loss of 10. The Warriors' field goal attempt was foiled by a low snap. Then, with Millersville nursing a 9-0 lead late in the third quarter, the Warriors were shut down on four consecutive snaps after reaching the Marauders' 9 yard line. A Jordan Walters field goal attempt was swatted away by Drew Seaburg, preserving a two-score lead for the Marauders and the eventual shutout.

Kendle Pitts secured Millersville's victory with an interception of Tim DiGiorgio on ESU's final drive of the game.

ESU came up empty on two red zone chances, and Millersville held the Warriors to 4 of 14 on third down conversions. The Marauders generated two turnovers, marking the fifth consecutive game with at least one. Not only did Gibson lead the team in rushing, he also recovered the ESU fumble covering a punt return.

The Warriors rushed for 58 yards and totaled seven first downs in the first quarter, but Millersville quickly adjusted, holding East Stroudsburg to just 10 more first downs and a total of 30 rushing yards over the final 45 minutes. The shutout was Millersville's first since blanking Cheyney on Oct. 13, 2012. Dugan's safety was Millersville's first since 2014.

With Tony Staffieri sidelined, Stephen Flanagan returned to the lineup at quarterback for the Marauders. Flanagan completed 8 of 16 passes for 61 yards and rushed for 39. Millersville has yet to have the same quarterback play two entire back-to-back games this season. Kevin Wiggins caught six passes, extending his streak of consecutive games with a catch to 38.

Millersville's 249 rushing yards were the most by the team since the 2014 season opener.

The Marauders are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a Homecoming game against Lock Haven. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
