Millersville, Pa. – Erica Tarsi had herself a day on Thursday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The sophomore scored a hat trick, helping Millersville (7-3) roll past Lindenwood 3-0 for a fourth consecutive victory.
Tarsi was everywhere for Millersville, and she wasted no time getting started in the afternoon home game. On the first possession of the game, Kathleen Bishop brought the ball into the circle. Bishop unselfishly gave it up to Lexi Robison, who continued the selflessness, setting up Tarsi for her first goal of the game only 21 seconds after the initial whistle.
"I just touched it one time," said Tarsi reflecting on her first goal. "That connection (with Robison) is something we work on all the time. She gave me a beautiful pass."
Tarsi was not finished yet.
Later in the game, it was a penalty shot that allowed Tarsi to score. Her final two goals came on penalty stroke attempts.
In the first half, she fired a shot into the upper left corner after subbing in specifically to take the corner.
"We practice those all the time," said Tarsi. "Shelly (Behrens) always tells us to 'do your job' and that's what happened there."
With less than eight minutes to play in the second half, Tarsi once again had a penalty shot. She sent this one into the back of the net as well to tally her third goal of the game and record the first Marauder hat trick since Sept. 3 of 2016 when Aliza Mizak scored three in one game.
Tarsi's three goals were a career high for her and so too were the eight shots and six shots on goal. She wasn't the only Marauder to put up an exuberant amount of shots, as Millersville enjoyed 23 total shots with 15 of them landing on goal.
Mizak had four shots on goal (and five total shots) and Bishop had one with three total shots in the game. Eight Marauders took a shot while Lindenwood totaled eight shots all game.
Four of the Lions shots were on goal, but Millersville goalkeeper Kylee Bair saved all four of them to continue the Marauders' strong defensive streak.
Bair and the Marauders have now shut out opponents in four straight games. Millersville has been able to hold opponents off from scoring for 296 total minutes.
"We came off a loss or two but we are really finding our groove now," said Tarsi.
That would be fair to say, but the Marauders will be put to the test again soon. They return to action on Saturday against Seton Hill in a 12 p.m. start.
