Millersville clinches No. 2 seed in PSAC Tournament with overtime win

Millersville, Pa. – Saturday's game at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium had serious PSAC Tournament implications on the line for both No. 3 Millersville and Slippery Rock. The intensity was evident throughout the entire game as each team fought viciously to better their chances in the future. In the end, it was the Marauders (14-4, 8-2) that came out on top in a 3-2 overtime victory on senior day, clinching the No. 2 seed in the PSAC Tournament.

Erica Tarsi scored two goals including the game-winner in overtime.

Millersville threatened to score throughout, totaling 33 shots. But time after time Slippery Rock goalkeeper Nicole Bream saved challenging shots. Bream made 14 saves in the game and her teammates added two defensive saves. Despite strong defensive stands on a multitude of occasions, the Marauders found a way to score three goals.

The game-winner came 7:31 into overtime. Tarsi recovered a loose ball after a skirmish and sent a shot towards the goal.

"After I hit the ball I was just hoping and hoping it would go in," said Tarsi. "'I was like please let me hear that sound.'"

She got the sound she wanted to hear. On the 33rd shot of the day, Millersville heard the beautiful smack off the back of the cage resound throughout the stadium.

"It just kind of popped to me, and I just shot it," said Tarsi.

Tarsi's first goal tied the game at one. It came in a strange segment of the second half, in which three goals were collectively scored by the two teams within 3:12.

After Tarsi tied the game up 46 seconds into the second half, The Rock was quick to respond. Not even two minutes later, Slippery Rock regained the lead on a goal from Brittany Morgan. She was assisted by Alyssa Castle.

The tide quickly turned, but Millersville struck back just as fast as Annabelle Tierney scored 1:37 after The Rock's goal to tie it back up at two. It was Tierney's third goal of the season. With Tarsi's two goals, she moved up to 12 on the year.

Less than a minute before Tarsi hit the game-winner, Kathleen Bishop took a shot that was saved by Bream. As Bream was on the ground, Sol Ortiz-Kreiner recovered the ball and missed left on an open goal.

This was just one of many similar fates.

With four minutes remaining in regulation, it was Bishop who almost put the game away. Her shot was destined to fall on goal, it seemed, until Rock midfielder Kayla Mack deflected it away while running at a full sprint. Additionally, Bream saved a penalty stroke taken by Jordan Goddard in the second half.

Marauder goalkeeper Kylee Bair had more action than usual. The Rock almost took more corners than Millersville, with the Marauders leading the stat 14-12, but this allowed plenty of opportunities for Slippery Rock to attack Bair.

The first of two goals Bair allowed came 19 minutes into the first half when Courtney Page scored to give The Rock a 1-0 lead.

Bair faced 11 shots and six shots on goal, allowing two goals and saving four shots. With the win Bair improves to 13-2 on the year. She and the Marauders have won 11 of their last 12.

"I'm fine with starting 3-3 if we can end on a high note," said Tarsi. "We are playing well now at the end of the year and that's what matters."

Millersville's next game will be Nov. 3 in Shippensburg in the PSAC Tournament semifinals against the winner of the No. 4 seed-No. 5 seed match-up.
