Grynkewicz nets a brace as Millersville dispatches Lock Haven 4-0

Millersville, Pa. -- Freshman Talia Grynkewicz netted a brace while juniors Lauren Hoffman and Delaney Meadows scored a goal each to earn Millersville a 4-0 victory under the lights against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Lock Haven University Wednesday night.

As the day turned to night and the familiar October evening chill set in, Millersville's offense heated up.

Sophomore Kay Liebl played a through ball to Grynkewicz at the center edge of the box in the 26th minute. The forward looked up, saw her opening, and drove a low shot past Lock Haven keeper Bree Hilty to give Millersville the go-ahead goal. Grynkewicz and Liebl played an integral role in Millersville's second goal as the pair played a give and go in the center of the field that allowed Liebl to get a step on her defender in the box. Liebl was immediately fouled and the referee awarded a penalty kick for the Marauders in the 35th minute. Without hesitation, Hoffman stepped up to the hash mark and placed her attempt in the left side of the goal.

Millersville continued their aggressive attack the moment the second half began. The Marauders again broke through in the 60th minute as freshman Alexis Glode played a through ball from midfield to Meadows. The junior danced around her defender before finding her opening several yards outside of the box. She struck an arching ball that dipped past Hilty's outstretched finger tips and into the back of the net. Opportunity presented itself again in the 64th minute as Meadows transitioned from scorer to facilitator and played a through ball from the right side to Grynkewicz. Again, she fired off a low shot that passed by the keeper and into the left side of the net.

Despite facing a difficult night at Pucillo Field, Hilty's heroics in goal with nine saves prevented Millersville from increasing its lead. Two Marauders recorded multiple shots on goal in addition to Grynkewicz and Meadows. Senior Rachel Lyon placed all three of her shots on goal while sophomore Abigail Eisenhart had two attempts on goal in the final two minutes. In total, eight Marauders combined for 13 shots on goal

Lock Haven had their chances throughout the match, but sophomore Kate Phillips saved all eight shots targeted at her. Phillips earned her second straight clean sheet and has registered 13 saves in two games. She currently ranks first in the PSAC with a .892 save percentage in her nine games played.

Millersville improves to 6-8-2 overall, 5-8-2 in PSAC play, and 5-2-1 at Pucillo Field. The Marauders look to improve on their two game winning streak when they host Gannon University Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the season finale. In addition to playing the Golden Knights, the Marauders will celebrate Stacie Hallinan and Rachel Lyon's careers on senior day.
