Millersville, Pa. -- Freshman Matteo Adiletta scored a brace as No. 22 Millersville earned a 3-0 victory in dominant fashion over the University of Pitt-Johnstown Saturday. The Marauders held the Mountain Cats to zero shots during the contest.

The Marauders pressured the Mountain Cats the moment the referee's whistle sounded. Millersville dominated possession and shot the ball four times while earning two corner kicks in the opening 11 minutes. Millersville's aggression paid off in the 13th minute when senior Marcus Frangakis's deflected pass found freshman McClain Smith's feet in the box. Smith reacted quickly and buried his attempt past the keeper for the go-ahead goal.

Millersville doubled its lead 15 minutes later after junior Dylan Fogerty got the ball in the center of the box to Adiletta who easily converted his attempt past the keeper. The Marauders struck again quickly in the 34th minute. Senior Ryan Phelps threaded a through ball up the middle to Adiletta who blasted his attempt past the keeper to give Millersville an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

Pitt-Johnstown switched to a defensive formation to absorb the Millersville pressure in an attempt to strike on the counter attack for the remainder of the game. The Millersville midfield and defensive back line swiftly ended counters by intercepting the ball or pushing up the line and catching the Mountain Cats offsides. Millersville's stout defense earned their third straight clean sheet and seventh of the season.

By the end of the game, Millersville attempted 31 shots with 12 on goal, and UPJ keeper Nate Kleya was forced to make nine saves. Kleya's heroics in goal prevented the Marauders from repeating their performance against UPJ in 2016. Sophomore Darian McCauley started the game while junior Cody Breen also earned some valuable playing time in net, but the pair were not called into action during the game.

Millersville improved to 12-3-1 on the season and 8-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Millersville will keep their eyes on PSAC rival Gannon's match up against Lock Haven on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. A Gannon draw or loss would lock up the second seed in the conference playoffs for the Marauders. 

Millersville's next game is an out-of-conference match up at Saint Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. Millersville then plays their final regular season match of the season against Gannon Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. on senior day.
