Lock Haven, Pennsylvania - Millersville men's basketball led for nearly 35 consecutive minutes of action, but in the final four-plus minutes of Monday's PSAC East match-up, Lock Haven outscored the Marauders 13-1 and pulled off an improbable comeback, 72-68.
Millersville (5-8, 4-5 PSAC), appeared well on its way to snapping a three-game losing streak. The Marauders led 67-59 with 4:25 to play.
Marcus Adkison had rediscovered his shooting stroke, pumping in 25 points and hitting 5-of-9 3-pointers after making six total threes in his previous five games. Millersville had canned 12 3-pointers to that point--its most in six games. But the game turned in favor of Lock Haven after
Conrad Chambers converted a three-point play for an eight-point Millersville advantage.
Cole Renninger scored two on Lock Haven's next possession, and after neither team scored for two minutes, Ra'eese Hunt sank back-to-back jumpers to make Millersville's lead just 67-65 with 1:20 left. A Marauder turnover put the ball back in the hands of Lock Haven, and Renninger gave his team a 68-67 lead with 39 seconds left. Adkison's chance to answer missed, and forced to foul, Millersville sent Jihad Barnes to the line. He made both, putting Millersville down three. Chambers was fouled on Millersville's next possession but he made just one of two, and with 15 seconds to play, Amir Hinton knocked down two foul shots to make it a two-possession lead for Lock Haven.
Over the final 4:25, Lock Haven made 4-of-5 shots from the field and 4-of-5 free throws. Millersville missed all five of its shots including three threes and went 1-for-3 at the line.
Millersville led by as many as 13 points in the first half. The loss dropped Millersville to 1-6 in road games. Millersville shot 12-of-25 from three while holding Lock Haven to 3-of-12 shooting from behind the arc. Millersville was previously 4-0 when making at least 10 threes.
Adkison's 25 was his fifth game with 20 or more points. Chambers totaled 12 points and five assists.
Cornell Yarde II scored 16, making 4-of-8 3-pointers.
Millersville's schedule gets no easier. It hosts 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday at Pucillo Gymnasium.
