West Chester, Pennsylvania - There is something about Hollinger Field House that doesn't agree with Millersville men's basketball. For the 20th time in the last 23 visits to West Chester, Millersville was sent home with a loss. Millersville scored just three points in the opening eight-plus minutes and never recovered in the 80-67 defeat.
West Chester (8-9, 6-6 PSAC) improved to 6-1 at home while Millersville (5-11, 4-8 PSAC) fell to 1-8 on the road. Millersville's
Conrad Chambers scored a career-high 27 points, connecting on 8-of-16 shots. But his efforts were trumped by Jackson Hyland, who made 11-of-15 shots including 4-of-6 threes for 30 points.
Millersville shot 38.7 percent from the field and shot 5-of-21 from three. Millersville has not scored more than 74 points in any game at West Chester since 2004. Wednesday's game was decided early as Millersville started 1-of-12 from the field and 0-of-5 from three with five turnovers in the first 8:53. At that point, Millersville trailed 15-3 and never got closer than nine the rest of the game.
It took the Marauders 13:43 of game action to reach double figures, and despite outscoring West Chester 19-15 over the final six minutes of the first half, they still trailed 37-26 at the break. With 14 minutes remaining in the game, Millersville closed the gap to 51-42 using a 9-2 run that included five points from
Cornell Yarde II, but West Chester retaliated with eight unanswered.
Chambers made 3-of-6 threes but the rest of the team combined to shoot 2-of-15. Leading scorer
Marcus Adkison was limited to two points, failing to make a field goal for the first time this season.
The Marauders return to Pucillo Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 21 to host Kutztown.
