Millersville, Pennsylvania - Kyle Finsterbush put the Marauders on top in the first half before
Jacob Gosselin and
Jaxson Burns scored in succession in the second to propel the Millersville men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Bloomsburg Wednesday.
The Marauders struck first after earning a corner kick in the 25th minute. When the ball popped out to the top of the 18,
Jeramey Robbins floated it into the six yard box where Finsterbush got a touch and put the ball in the back of the net. The two sides would both have opportunities before the break, but the score remained 1-0 at half.
Bloomsburg threatened to even the score in the 57th as
Darian McCauley was pulled out of his net, but the Millersville defense blocked two shots in a row and cleared the danger.
In the 73rd,
Jaxson Burns played the ball to the freshman Gosselin who netted the second goal of the game and the second of his young Marauder career. Less than a minute later, Burns found the ball at his feet on the right edge of the box, dribbled in and tucked it inside the post to give Millersville a commanding 3-0 lead.
Millersville outshot Bloomsburg to the tune of 24-7 and took 13 corner kicks to the Huskies three. McCauley was not tested much by the Bloomsburg offense, but came up with three saves in the effort.
Millersville improves to 3-0 (1-0 PSAC) on the season and the Huskies fall to 1-2 (0-1 PSAC) The Marauders hit the road for the first time in 2016 onSaturday when theytravel to Garden City, New York to face Adelphi at 4 p.m.
