West Chester, Pennsylvania - Ninth-ranked West Chester scored five goals en route to its shutout victory of Millersville Tuesday. The Golden Rams scored three goals in the first half before the Marauders registered a shot and added two more goals in the second.
After mustering just one shot in the first half, Millersville finished the game with four shots to West Chester's 16.
West Chester came out of the gates firing, earning a corner kick in the 12th minute. Off the corner, Lexi Brown played the ball to Scarlett Walsh who placed it in the top right corner of the net to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead. About three minutes later, West Chester would double their lead when Haley Mangiaruga scored her first goal of 2016 to lift the lead to two. The Golden Rams continued to press in the 27th minute, scoring a second goal off a corner kick and giving West Chester a 3-0 lead which it would take into half.
Millersville would take the first shot of the second half before West Chester earned a trio of corner kicks and shots. The Marauders threatened in the 60th when Savanah Hall put a shot on frame that was pushed wide for a corner kick that they could not convert. The Golden Rams responded quickly as Kara Pavel scored her fourth goal of the season and West Chester held a 4-0 lead. The Golden Rams would tack on a fifth goal in the 78th minute as West Chester shut out Millersville 5-0.
Savannah Hall and
Kay Liebl proved to be the only threats for the Marauders, each totaling two shots on goal while
Samantha Wolfe tallied five saves.
Millersville falls to 2-7 on the season (2-7 PSAC) and have a long layoff before hitting the road October 5 to face Lock Haven while West Chester's record remains unblemished at 9-0.
