Lock Haven, Pennsylvania - Kay Liebl scored in the first half and
Alexandrea Powell converted a penalty kick to lead the Millersville women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lock Haven Wednesday. The win marks the first road victory of the season for the Marauders as senior
Samantha Wolfe totaled seven saves to help Millersville prevail over the Bald Eagles.
Liebl came out firing, registering the first shot of the game in the 12th minute that Bree Hilty collected for a save. Three minutes later,
Halie Parker dribbled up the side and swung a ball into the box where Liebl collected it and put it in the back of the net to give Millersville a 1-0 lead. After Parker had a chance to double the Marauders lead, Lock Haven responded when Sarah Bonnelli floated a ball over the head of
Samantha Wolfe to tie the game 1-1.
After the Bald Eagles had a pair of chances, Millersville would earn a penalty kick that
Alexandrea Powell drilled to regain the lead for the Marauders. Both teams traded chances and Wolfe came up with a save in the 38th minute to keep the score 2-1 at the break.
Lock Haven looked to even the score in the second when Gabby Kishbaugh broke free and placed a shot on frame but Wolfe turned her away. The Bald Eagles would have another pair of shots but could not convert. The Marauder defense held strong and despite a last-minute effort from Marah Foltz, Millersville earned their first road win since October 18, 2015.
The Marauders improve to 3-7 overall (3-7 PSAC) and will travel to California (Pa.) Saturday to face the Vulcans at 3:30 p.m.
