Women's soccer edged out at home

Millersville, Pennsylvania - Taylor Lewis scored for the Golden Knights as Gannon topped Millersville 1-0 Saturday at Pucillo Field. Gannon managed just one more shot on goal than Millersville (5-4) as both keepers registed four saves.

The Marauders nearly struck in the 16th when they earned a corner kick. After the ball was knocked around, Stacie Hallinan nearly flicked it past the keeper but Shannon Differ snagged it. Minutes later, Halie Parker had a one-on-one with Differ and swung the ball into the box where the back line of Gannon cleared it.

The Golden Knights would strike first in the 20th when Emily Cekella played a ball to Taylor Lewis who dribbled in and placed the ball far post to give Gannon a 1-0 lead. Millersville tried to respond in the 29th when Kay Liebl beat her defender on the left side and pushed a shot just over the crossbar.

The Marauders earned a corner kick in the 37th when a ball was played up top to Sydnie Parker and Parker's shot was deflected out of bounds. When Hall crossed the ball in, Differ snagged it out of the air just before Kaylie Cutlip could head it home. Gannon almost added a second with three minutes to play when Lewis floated a ball that Samantha Wolfe grabbed at the height of her leap.

Millersville had a pair of chances midway into the second half, but both were called back for offsides. With 10 minutes to play, Kay Liebl flicked a ball past Differ, but a Golden Knight defender cleared it just before it crossed the line.

In the 87th minute, Amanda Mcelhare ripped a shot that was blocked by Differ who came out of her net. The ball landed at the feet of Rachel Lyon on the right side of the box and Lyon fired it just high.

Millersville falls to 2-6 (2-6 PSAC) overall and looks to bounce back Tuesday when it travels to West Chester to face the Golden Rams at 1:30 p.m.
