Millersville, Pennsylvania - The Millersville University field hockey team played its usual stingy defense and received a goal from three players in 3-0 shutout of visiting Seton Hill Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville (2-1) outshot Seton Hill (0-4) by a 30-2 margin, racking up 22 shots in the second half alone. The Marauders also placed 18 of those shots on goal, with Seton Hill's two keepers and a defender combining for 15 saves.
Newcomers
Erica Tarsi and
Rachel Cox scored their goals as Marauders, and
Arianna Grays tacked on one more with 5:13 to play. All three of the Marauders' goals were assisted.
Tarsi's put the Marauders on the board 10:45 into the game.
Kathleen Bishop pushed a centering pass from the left side of the circle to Tarsi, who was crashing down on the goalkeeper. Tarsi rifled the shot to the back of the cage for the score. Cox followed under three minutes later, taking a pass from
Aliza Mizak. The Marauders' final tally came with freshman
Jordan Goddard passed through traffic to Grays, who was waiting on the left post of the goal. Grays redirected the pass for her first of the season.
Samantha Rumler registered the shutout, making one save in the second period. Seton Hill mustered one shot in each period. It was Rumler's second shutout of the season and the 13th of her career. Millersville has allowed just one goal in its last nine regular season home games.
The Marauders return to action on Sept. 14 at Slippery Rock.
