Millersville, Pennsylvania - Millersville University field hockey defeated Slippery Rock 3-0 in behind the efforts of
Robyn Spatichia and
Margaret Thorwart, who each had a goal and an assist in the victory.
After nearly 50 minutes of scoreless action, Spatichia struck first to put Millersville in the lead. The goal opened the doors for the Marauders. Spatichia's goal was only the second shot in the second half for Millersville, but it would not be the last in the victory for the sixth-ranked Marauders, who improved to 3-1 today.
Thorwart added an insurance goal seven minutes later, this one assisted by Spatichia, who had flipped the ball into scoring territory where Thorwart finished the job. The final goal came with under three minutes remaining when Thorwart sent in a pass that was capitalized on by
Kathleen Bishop, who registered her first goal of the season.
Carly Castle also picked up an assist in the win.
Millersville managed 10 shots with six of them on goal, compared to The Rock's two shots, with neither of them on goal.
Taylor Parker and
Kierstyn Smith played lockdown defense, playing every single minute. Millersville's defense has only let up two goals in four games, and the Marauders already boast three shutouts.
Millersville's next match-up comes at home on Saturday at 12 p.m., where No. 4 Kutztown looks to avenge last year's 4-1 loss.
