GAME NOTES
• Millersville women's lacrosse capped off its best season in more than a decade with a 14-10 victory over Gannon. The Marauders finished the season 11-6, which is the most wins the program has had since 1990 and it is their first PSAC Tournament appearance since 2001. Millersville will travel to Indiana to take on the 12th-ranked IUP Crimson Hawks, which enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed. IUP is making its fifth consecutive tournament appearance. The winner draws No. 2 seed West Chester.
• The last PSAC Championship for the Marauders came in 1990, capping a run of three in a row for the Marauders under Coach Barb Waltman. In the 36 seasons that a PSAC Champion has been crowned, West Chester has won 21. Lock Haven has won five titles since 2011. Millersville's last tournament win came in 1992, when it defeated Bloomsburg in the semifinal before losing to West Chester in the championship game.
• Millersville and IUP met on March 19 with the Crimson Hawks scoring a close, 15-12 win. Millersville trailed by three--11-8--with just over 15 minutes remaining, but IUP scored four of the next five goals to pull away.
Taylor Davis scored four goals while
Bridget Hufnagel and
Sabrina Fusco added three. The teams were evenly matched in draw controls and caused turnovers but Millersville committed four more total turnovers.
• Millersville is 4-4 on the road this season and has faced five teams that held national rankings. The Marauders scored wins over Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg for a 2-3 record against nationally ranked teams. IUP is 5-2 at home and 2-4 against nationally ranked teams, holding wins over Mercyhurst and East Stroudsburg.
• Millersville's offense ranks fifth in the 13-team PSAC, scoring 218 goals and averaging 12.8 per game. The club is just three goals away from a school record, which was previously set in 2013.
• Bridget Hufnagel led Millersville with 58 goals scored during the regular season, including five against Gannon to help lift her to 76 points overall in 2016. That mark tied Hufnagel for most single-season points in Marauder history. Hufnagel is tied for the PSAC lead in goals and ranks 23rd nationally in points per game and 20th in goals per game.
• Sabrina Fusco finished second on the team in goals scored (55) and points (66), ranking her fifth in goals and 10th in points among PSAC players. Fusco, with 107 career goals in just two seasons, is the first player in Millersville history with 50-plus goals in each of her first two seasons.
• Fellow senior
Abby Mack dished out four assists against the Golden Knight, giving her 31 this season and 65 for her career, which broke the program's record set by
Hannah Vogel (61) just last year. Mack ranks eighth in the PSAC in assists per game. Mack has recorded 24 of her assists in the last six games after totaling just three in a 10-game stretch from Feb. 29-April 1.
• Bryana Weston-Wyatt stepped in to start all 17 games as a true freshman, racking up 147 saves, posting a save percentage of .443. Fellow freshman
Tessa Kircher also started all 17 games, racking up a team-high 36 ground balls.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• IUP has topped the Marauders seven consecutive times with Millersville's last win coming in 2009. This season's Crimson Hawk club enters the tournament with four consecutive wins including impressive victories of Mercyhurst and East Stroudsburg. They outscore opponents by nearly four goals per game, allowing just 158 goals on the season. Goalkeeper Angela Lontoc has been outstanding, ranking second in the PSAC with a .506 saves percentage.
• Millersville will have to take care of the ball on offense as IUP leads the league in caused turnovers and ranks second in ground balls.
• The attack is balanced with three players--Ally Burrows, Kim Hooven and Adriana Greco--all totaling at least 35 goals. Amy Weinberg is the total facilitator in the league with 63 assists.
