Erie, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse picked up a 14-10 victory over Gannon to close out the regular season Saturday. With the win, Millersville finishes the regular season 11-6 (7-5) which is the most wins the program has had since 1990 and clinched its first PSAC Tournament berth since 2001.
Bridget Hufnagel scored a game-high five goals and had one assist, giving her 76 points on the season which ties Millersville hall of famer Cherie Meiklejohn and Elizabeth Weekely for most points in a single season at Millersville.
Abby Mack registered four assists which now gives her sole posession of the career assists record at Millersville. Mack has 65 assists for her career, breaking
Hannah Vogel's mark of 61.
Sabrina Fusco had a big game as well, scoring four goals while
Renee Landis added two.
It took almost eight minutes for either team to score in the first half before Millersville's
Callie Kavanaugh found the back of the net to give the Marauders the 1-0 lead.
Bridget Hufnagel would score a pair of goals and
Sabrina Fusco netted her first to give Millersville a 4-0 lead. Gannon came charging back however, scoring five unanswred and taking the lead. Fusco would respond with two goals just before half to give the Marauders a 6-5 lead at the break.
Millersville would come out of the gates strong in the second half, scoring five in a row to take a commanding 11-5 lead with 20 minutes to play. The Marauders would extend their lead to 13-6 before Gannon would mount a comeback. The Golden Knights would cut the lead to three before they ran out of time as Millersville added one more and took the game 14-10.
The Marauders clinched the berth with East Stroudsburg's loss to Indiana (Pa.). The Marauders wil play on April 30 at either IUP or Lock Haven.
