Lincoln University, Pa. - Millersville baseball set the PSAC record for runs scored three years ago against Lincoln. The Marauders nearly broke their own record against the same opponent in Tuesday's 34-6 win. Millersville totaled 22 hits and 16 walks. Five Marauders totaled four RBIs.
The 34-run total is the third-most in PSAC history, coming within six of the record that was set by the Marauders on April 3, 2013. The 16 walks came within one of the league record, which was set by Shippensburg against Swarthmore on March 8, 1977.
Tyler Webster drew four of those walks and also drove in four runs.
Ben Snyder went 4-for-5 with two doubles, five runs and three RBIs.
David Summerfield hit a home run, totaled three hits, four RBIs and four runs.
John Brogan also hit a homer.
Lincoln kept the game close through six innings. The Lions cut Millersville's lead to 7-5 after an error allowed a run to score. But in the top of the seventh, Millersville scored 14 runs, sending 19 batters to the plate. Millersville totaled only five hits in the inning but drew six walks, a hit batter and two errors.
Mitch Stoltzfus drove in three runs in the inning.
Chas McCormick, Snyder and Summerfield plated two apiece.
The Marauders added four more in the eighth, three of which came on
Aaron Taylor's bases-loaded double. Nine more runs crossed in the ninth.
John Brogan hit a home run and drew a bases loaded walk. Webster drew two bases-loaded walks in the inning.
Millersville used seven pitchers with six of them throwing just one inning. Starter
Kyle Peterson (4-0) allowed one run on two hits and two walks over three innings.
Eric Ligda performed the rare feat of recording four strikeouts in one inning. He struck out the first batter of the inning, but the batter reached on a passed ball. He then struck out three of the next four to end the inning.
Now 36-3, Millersville has won 13 in a row. The Marauders travel to Shippensburg Friday for a doubleheader.
