Millersville, Pa. – Brianna Andraos and
Cassidy Pinchorski turned in a pair of dominant pitching performances on Thursday afternoon as the Millersville softball team cranked out a combined 15 hits in a two-game sweep of Shippensburg with scores of 7-0 and 4-3.
The Marauders earned their third and fourth PSAC East wins of the season to improve to 17-11 overall and 5-3 in conference play while the Raiders fell to 9-16 on the season, 0-4 in league action and have now dropped four-straight. This marks the second season in a row that Millersville has swept Shippensburg at the Millersville Softball Field.
Reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week
Brianna Andraos twirled a four-hit complete game shutout in the day's first game. The righty struck out three and only allowed six runners on base with no Raider getting any farther than second. Andraos now has six shutouts on the season, which ranks first in PSAC.
On the offensive end, both teams were held scoreless until the Marauders exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Millersville was helped out by the Raiders defense within the inning as they had a pair of errors. Millersville plated home its first run when
Megan McCurdy reached on an error by the shortstop as
Tori Kinsella scored. Chloe Collins walked
Raeann Buskey that scored
Brittany Smith.
Jaynie Black slapped a single to right center field that plated home the Marauders fourth and fifth runs.
Megan Hallock and Kinsella got into the RBI party slicing a pair of single to give Millersville the 7-0 lead.
Andraos held the Raiders bats in check in the top of the seventh to earn her eighth win of the season.
In game two, Shippensburg opened the scoring in the top of the second off of an RBI double from Maddie Schafer. The Marauders would respond in the bottom half of the inning when
Jaynie Black singled home Buskey from third base.
The score would remain 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth when Millersville used a pair of extra base hits to jump start the offense. Buskey began the inning with a leadoff single and scored on a RBI double off of the bat of
Megan Hallock. The very next batter,
Heather Lutz doubled to right field to plate home Hallock.
Megan McCurdy gave the Marauders the 4-1 lead on a single to centerfield.
The Raiders nearly completed the comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but Andraos entered in the relief of Pinchorski and slammed the door shut for her first save of the season. Pinchorski (9-4) scattered 10 hits and struck out five across 6.2 innings of work.
Heather Lutz was scorching at the dish finishing the doubleheader with three doubles and an RBI to improve her batting average to .329.
Next up, Millersville travels to Kutztown on Friday, April 8 for a twinbill slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
