East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Brianna Andraos threw a four-hitter in game one and
Cassidy Pinchorski went the distance with 12 strikeouts in game two as Millersville swept East Stroudsburg, 2-0 and 3-2 (9 innings), in the PSAC East softball opener on Friday afternoon.
Andraos tossed her ninth complete game of the season and struck out four to improve to 7-6 on the season.
Both teams left six runners on base through the first three innings, but in the top of the fourth Millersville struck with a pair of unearned runs that accounted for the only scores of the affair. The top of the fourth began with a slap single off of the bat of
Maria Spinosa who later stole second. Spinosa scored during the next at-bat when a
Megan Hallock fly ball was mishandled by the Warriors center fielder. The Marauders once again punished the ESU mistake when
Heather Lutz ripped a RBI single. Andraos kept the Warriors hitless through the final three innings to preserve the 2-0 win.
Millersville opened the scoring in the nightcap of the twinbill in the third inning. Hallock led off the inning with a triple to right field. The following batter,
Heather Lutz walked and stole second before Mandi Hammond singled home Hallock. Lutz would score on a
Brittany Smith single to give the Marauders the 2-0 lead.
ESU would get on the board in the fourth with a homer and tie it up in the sixth when Rae Holden hit a leadoff single and pinch runner Kendra Barlotta stole second and scored on an RBI single by Haley Thomas.
The Warriors nearly won it in the eighth after Mede retired the side the Warriors put their first three hitters on base on singles from Danielle Dungee, Thomas and a Millersville error, but Pinchorski endused a popup, a force out at the plate and a ground out to send the game to the ninth.
Heather Lutz hit a leadoff double, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a two-out RBI single by
Kelsey Campbell for the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth. Pinchorski retied the warriors in order in the bottom half to improve to 8-3 on the season.
The Marauders had 12 hits including two from Lutz, Smith and Hallock.
Millersville returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader against West Chester. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
