Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - Millersville lacrosse suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, falling 12-11 in overtime against Philadelphia University.
Sabrina Fusco led the way for Millersville with five goals and one assist.
Renee Landis had a team-high three assists to go along with a pair of goals.
Coming out of the gate, both teams proved to be evenly matched as neither side score until eight minutes in when Landis found Fusco in front of the net to put the Marauders up 1-0. After the Devils tied the game, Millersville looked to take control, scoring three in a row to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Marauders. Philadelphia immediately answered with three goals of their own, and all three goals coming from free position shot attempts. Millersville and Philadelphia continued match each other as Fusco and Hufnagel put the Marauders up 6-4 but the Devils responded with two goals of their own to make the score 6-6 at halftime.
Fusco continued to dominate as she scored her fourth goal of the game less than two minutes into the second half. Philadelphia's Liz Mower scored two goals in a row to give the Devils their first lead of the contest.
Renee Landis then answered with a pair of goals herself to give the Marauders the lead back. Later in the half, the two sides were knotted up at 10 when Mower scored again to give Philadelphia the lead with under three minutes to play. Not fazed, Hufnagel and Fusco connected with just 16 seconds left to tie the game and eventually force overtime.
Overtime began as Philadelphia's Isabella DiGnazio won the draw control and the Devils marched down the field earning a free position shot attempt. From this position, Elizabeth Seitzenger would fire one home and give Philadelphia a 12-11 victory.
Bryana Weston-Wyatt recorded 13 saves as Philadelphia bettered Millersville in shots, shots on goal, ground balls, draw controls, and free position shots.
The Marauders are now 2-1 on the season and look to bounce back Sunday when they host Chesnut Hill at 1 p.m.
