Marauders Match Longest Win Streak in Program History with Sweep of Post

Millersville, Pa. - Fourth-ranked Millersville baseball extended its winning streak to 14 after topping Post by scores of 11-2 and 5-0 in Saturday's home doubleheader. The winning streak now matches the longest in program history, tying the mark set by the 1982 and 2000 clubs.

Millersville's (15-1) pitching was outstanding on Saturday, allowing just eight hits and two runs and striking out 12 in the doubleheader. Reid Anderson (3-0) threw six innings for a win in the opener, and freshman Kyle Peterson (1-0) was one of five Marauders to work in game two. Peterson fanned six in three innings.

Catcher Mitch Stoltzfus stayed white hot at the plate, going 4-for-6 on the day and slamming two home runs in the opener. His ran his hitting streak to 13 games, during which he has hit .614 (27-for-44) with six homers, four doubles and 22 RBIs.

Post jumped out to an early lead against Anderson in game one. The first two batters drew walks and both scored after a Don Walsh double and a Raphael Tous fielder's choice. The 2-0 lead didn't even hold up a full inning, though. Tyler Orris drew a leadoff walk and was followed by Jeremy Musser's single. Chas McCormick drove in Orris with a single of his own and Musser scored one at bat later.

After the rocky start, Anderson settled and retired 16 of the next 19 batters. He faced just two over the minimum over his final five innings. He surrendered just three hits and struck out six in six innings.

With Anderson in control, the Marauder bats heated up in the fourth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jeremy Musser slapped a triple into the left field corner, clearing the bases. Mitch Stoltzfus slammed a solo homer in the fifth and added a two-run blast in the sixth, helping the Marauders to a four-run inning. Stoltzfus went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Orris drew three walks, stole two bags and scored three times.

Peterson made his Cooper Park debut in game two and struck out the first four batters he faced. Post loaded the bases against him in the third but he got Walsh to pop out to end the inning. Coach Jon Shehan went to the bullpen the rest of the way, using four pitchers to toss one inning apiece. The bullpen did the job in keeping Post off the board for Millersville's third shutout of the season.

Mitch Stoltzfus played a primary offensive role in game two as well. He led off the second with a double, jumpstarting a two run inning in which Ted Williams and Musser picked up RBIs. Ben Snyder singled in a run in the third, Chas McCormick drove in Williams with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Orris scored in the sixth after a single, two stolen bases and ground out from McCormick.

Orris reached base three more times in game two, drawing one walk and recording two singles. Millersville totaled just six hits but was aided by three hit batsmen and five walks.

Millersville opens PSAC Eastern Division play on Friday, March 18 against Mansfield.
