Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball team trailed by as much as 19 in the second half, but a series of runs cut the Lock Haven lead to five as the Bald Eagles closed the Marauders out down the stretch winning 78-65. Lock Haven improves to 11-11 overall and 7-11 in the PSAC, while the Marauders dropped to 3-18 overall and 3-14 in conference action.
Ricky Mosley scored on a layup on Millersville's opening possession as the Marauders led for the opening three minutes of Saturday's game. A pair of Cole Renninger free throws gave LHU the 9-7 lead and the visitors held the advantage to the final whistle. Lock Haven shot 46.9 percent from the field in the first half and closed the period on a 15-3 run.
The Millersville second half comeback attempt was spearheaded by Mosley and sophomore guard
Jerrin Ball who scored all 14 of his points in the half. Ball was able to get to the free throw line with ease finishing 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.
The Marauders went on a 38-16 run from the beginning of the half and it spanned nearly 17 minutes cutting the Lock Haven lead to five points at 66-61. The run was capped off by a
Shawn Williams steal who then fed
Jerrin Ball in transition for a fast break layup. However, a
Shawn Williams technical foul swayed the momentum back into the Bald Eagles favor as they coasted to the 78-65 victory.
Lock Haven was led in scoring by Ra'eese Hunt who finished with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Dave Garcia chipped in 13 points off of the bench and Shawn Church added 10 points.
The Marauders shot 33.3 percent from the floor, 22 percent from downtown and were 18-of-28 from the free throw line. Mosley led Millersville in scoring with 17 points and added seven rebounds.
Shawn Williams poured in 16 points and Ball finished with a career-high 14 points.
Tommy Patterson stuffed the stat sheet with eight rebounds, two blocks, two steals and four points.
Millersville hits the road for a PSAC East showdown with Shippensburg on Wednesday. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
