Shippensburg Pa. – Shippensburg raced out to an early 8-2 lead in Wednesday's game and Millersville never recovered. The Marauders only regained the lead once within the first half after
Cornell Yarde II scored the opening basket and were handed an 87-70 loss.
Millersville (3-19, 3-15 PSAC) lost its second consecutive game largely because of the shooting of the homestanding Shippensburg Raiders (15-8, 12-7 PSAC). Shippensburg cashed in 10-of-24 3-pointers, shot 45.3% from the floor and sank 19 free throws.
The Marauders trailed by as many as 12 within the first half, but regained the lead with 4:36 remaining in the period on a
Tommy Patterson 3-pointer. The Raiders finished the half on a 6-0 run including an Antonio Kellem trey at the end of the period and went into the halftime break with a 39-31 lead.
Shippensburg led by as much as 20 before the Marauders closed the margin with the scoring of guard
Shawn Williams late. Williams finished in double figures for the 17th time this season and led the Marauders in scoring with 22 points, hitting 6-of-10 from downtown while also contributing three boards and two assists.
Tommy Patterson was highly active all night missing out on a double-double with nine points and six rebounds. Patterson also blocked a game-high three shots.
Cornell Yarde II chipped in 10 points in his first start since Jan. 6.
Four Raiders scored in double figures including Dustin Sleva and Antonio Kellem who combined to shoot 18-of-28 from the field for 47 points.
Millersville has the weekend off before returning to action on Monday at Pucillo Gymnasium for a game against Mansfield. Tip is 7:30 p.m.
