Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball team snapped its longest losing streak in program history with a 61-50 victory over PSAC East Rival Cheyney on Wednesday evening. For only the third time this season, the Marauders finished with a higher percentage from the field than their opponent shooting 34.4 percent from the floor.
Millersville (3-17, 3-13) opened the scoring when
Ricky Mosley hit a shot from downtown in the Marauders opening possession. The Marauders built a six point lead after eight minutes of play on a
Markeith Mont layup. But the Black & Gold would go ice cold from the field failing to convert on a shot over the next four minutes of play allowing Cheyney to build a seven point lead of their own capped off by a Juwan Mullen 3-pointer. The poor shooting forced a
Fred Thompson timeout with 4:51 remaining in the first half, but the Marauders responded by closing the stanza on a 16-8 run. The home team went into the halftime break with a 28-25 lead.
The Marauders built several seven point leads within the second half, but Cheyney clawed their way back into the contest and eventually tied it up at 47 points apiece after a Basir Fulmore layup. However, the Marauders drew several fouls down the stretch and converted at the charity stripe closing the contest on a 13-3 run.
Cheyney falls to 2-17 overall and 1-14 in the PSAC and has dropped five-straight in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Wolves were led by Juwan Mullen who finished with a game-high 20 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Khaalis Carter chipped in nine points off of the bench on 3-of-6 shooting from downtown.
The Marauders were led in scoring by
Tom Townsend who became a fan favorite after nailing several timely 3-pointers. Townsend finished with a career-high 15 points off of the bench. Freshman
Ryan Beck chipped in 10 points and forward
Tommy Patterson added seven points while snagging a career-high 14 rebounds.
