Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball team wasn't able to find enough offence on Saturday afternoon as the visiting West Chester Golden Rams were victorious by an 81-63 decision. West Chester who is ranked No. 21 according to the NABC Division II Poll improves to 21-4 overall and 17-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders have lost four-straight after beating Cheyney on Feb. 3 and drop to 3-21 overall and 3-17 in conference action.
Millersville hung tough with the Golden Rams in the first half and held leads at three different occasions within the half. Malik Jackson opened the scoring with a 3-pointer as the visitors built a 9-1 lead into the first media timeout. The Marauders came out of the break much more efficient, first with a trey via
Ryan Beck on a
Cornell Yarde II assist and then a
Jon Lott steal turned into an easy basket the other way for Lott. The Marauders evened the score at 14 apiece after a
Ricky Mosley free throw with 11:41 left in the first half. Millersville would build its largest lead of the game (5) with a
Tom Townsend 3-pointer and a
Markeith Mont layup. The lead was quickly erased as both teams went back and forth with the Golden Rams carrying a 34-29 lead into the intermission.
The Marauders had opportunities throughout forcing 14 WCU turnovers, but Millersville only scored 10 points off of the Golden Rams shortcomings. Millersville finished the contest 19-of-54 (35.2%) from the floor, knocked down nine three-pointers and converted 16 points at the charity stripe. Millersville was led by
Shawn Williams who finished with his second double-double of the season. Williams poured in 21 points, corralled a career-high 12 rebounds, tallied three assists and three steals.
Ryan Beck and
Tom Townsend each added six points off of the bench.
West Chester had five different players finish in double figures. Matt Wiseley led the way for the Golden Rams with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Malik Jackson finished with 13 points, Matt Penecale added 11 and fellow guard Tyrell Long chipped in 10 points. Mike Wilson came off of the WCU bench and was 3-for-5 from downtown finishing with 11 points.
Millersville has a quick turnaround facing Mansfield at home on Monday. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
