Bloomsburg, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball team scored the opening basket and led for the first six minutes of Wednesday's matchup with Bloomsburg, but the Huskies topped the Marauders 85-59 at Nelson Field House.
The Marauders raced out to a 7-0 early lead that was capped off by a
Tom Townsend 3-pointer. Millersville extended the lead to 9-6 on a
Ricky Mosley layup with 15:13 left in the first half before the Huskies went on a 15-4 run over the span of six minutes to take a 21-13 lead with 9:13 remaining. The Marauders would trim the lead to as few as three points after a Cornell Yard II old-fashion three-point play at 23-20 with 6:54 left. Christian Mortellite of the Huskies spearheaded the offensive attack going for 11 over the final six minutes allowing the home team to build up a 39-27 half time lead.
Millersville cut the lead to eleven, 45-34, with 16:26 left before the Huskies went on another huge run to eliminate any doubt in the outcome. Bloomsburg scored 25 of the game's next 32 points to open up a 70-41 lead with 6:18 remaining. Bloomsburg (16-8, 14-6 PSAC) converted on a season-high ten 3-pointers including five from Christian Mortelite who finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor.
The Marauders finished 16-of-64 from the field and especially struggled in the second half, failing to make a 3-pointer within the period.
Shawn Williams finished in double figures with 13 points and
Ricky Mosley tallied 10.
Tommy Patterson just missed out on a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Millersville (3-20, 3-16) closes out the season with three-straight home matchups. The Marauders host West Chester on Saturday at Pucillo Gymnasium with a 3 p.m. tip.
