Millersville, Pennsylvania - The Millersville University women's volleyball team challenged visiting Shippensburg in all three sets of Tuesday's PSAC match-up, but did not have enough firepower to keep pace with the now 25-5 (12-4 PSAC) Raiders. Shippensburg took the match 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21).
Junior
Erin Harman delivered 15 kills to just four errors and classmate
Kelsi Ceriani recorded 11 kills without an error in 19 attempts (.579) before exiting the third set with an injury. The juniors led Millersville (9-18, 5-11 PSAC)Â to a .223 attack percentage, which was its best in a loss this season. Shippensburg totaled 44 kills while hitting .278 and was led by Annie Goerl's 14 kills. Ship setter Maura Nolan piled up 42 assists while Millersville's
Grace Dawson totaled 33.
Millersville out-hit Shippensburg .341-.308 in a cleanly played first set. The two teams combined for just five attack errors. The two teams traded points early, with 10 ties at 10-10. Shippensburg ripped off four consecutive points to gain some separation, but Millersville stayed close, and two kills by Harman kept the Marauders within two at 22-20 and 23-21. Another Ship kill gave the Marauders set point, but
Kara Wirt sent home a kill to cut the deficit to 24-22. Ship, however, closed the set with a kill from Kendall Johnson.
Shippensburg led by as many as eight in a more one-sided second set. Ceriani's five kills on five swings was not enough to keep pace in the 25-19 loss.
Despite hitting .074 in the third set, Millersville led as late as 21-20 after a Ship attack error. Gabriella Johnson recorded back-to-back kills for the Raiders, and Maria Peluso dropped two service aces before Samantha Webber capped a 5-0 run and the sweep.
Tuesday's match was the home finale for Millersville. The Marauders close the season with road matches against Pitt-Johnstown and Lock Haven.
