Millersville, Pennsylvania - Behind 11 service aces and 19 kills from Danielle Hays, the visiting California (Pa) Vulcans downed Millersville in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) Friday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium.
Hays accounted for four of the team's 11 aces--tied for the most against the Marauders this season. California boosted its record to 18-7, 10-4 PSAC while Millersville dropped to 9-16, 5-9 PSAC.
Erin Harman led Millersville with nine kills, but it was the first time since Sept. 30 and just the third time all season that she failed to register at least 10 kills.
California totaled 46 kills to Millersville's 31 and out-hit the Marauders .330-.160. That marked the highest hitting percentage by any of the Marauders' 2016 opponents.
Freshman
Katie Laughman record 15 digs and Harman added 14.
Millersville's best chance to win a set came in the first. The Marauders trailed 22-14 after a kill from Ashley Leto, but quickly rallied with kills from
Kara Wirt and
Brittany Ford. A kill from Harman and a California attack error pulled the Marauders within three at 23-20. The Vulcans, however, were helped by a Millersville attack error, and after a kill from
Haley Butler, CalU finished the set with a kill from Seairra Barrett.
California hit .316 in the second set and .406 in the third. Hays totaled 14 kills and just one error over the final two sets.
Millersville hosts Seton Hill Saturday for the second half of a PSAC back-to-back.
