Marauders storm back to top Lakers

Millersville, Pennsylvania - With a little more than 10 minutes to play, Millersville trailed visiting Mercyhurst by 10 and was in need of a spark. A technical foul on Mercyhurst sent Millersville's Conrad Chambers to the line, and one made free throw was seemingly refueled the Marauders for a stirring comeback. Millersville outscored the Lakers 29-16 the rest of the way, hitting 8-of-11 shots and 9-of-12 free throws in the final 10 minutes to score a 69-66 comeback win.

The Marauders (2-1, 2-0 PSAC) had been outscored 17-4 through the first 10 minutes of the second period. After Chambers' free throw and driving layup 16 seconds later, the Marauders made their next four shots, including threes from Chambers and Cornell Yarde II. With 5:28 to play, the Marauders still trailed 58-54, but Marcus Adkison scored nine consecutive points for the Marauders. His triple with 3:57 to play gave Millersville its first lead (61-60) in nearly 14 minutes. Mercyhurst battled back into a 64-63 lead with with 1:40 to play after sinking four foul shots in three possessions, but on Millersville's next offensive possession, Yarde--the game-high scorer with 22--buried a left wing 3-pointer to put Millersville in front for good.

Millersville's Amadou Kaba drew a charge on a driving Durrell McDonald. Adkison splashed two free throws with 32 seconds left, giving Millersville a four-point edge. DaJuan Dent scored a second-chance bucket with 10 seconds left. A long pass intended for Kaba on the ensuing inbounds pass drew a foul, and Kaba made one of two. The last-second, game-tying attempt from McDonald rimmed out.

Millersville shot 10-of-20 from 3-point range while holding Mercyhurst to just 5-of-15 shooting from distance. The Marauders also managed to overcome Mercyhurst's 16 second-chance points and 34-14 edge in points in the paint. Yarde sank 7-of-13 shots, 4-of-5 threes and 4-of-4 free throws. Adkison made 3-of-7 threes and sank all six free throws. In addition to his 18 points, Chambers pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
